The Katha Kiyanno Collective was co-founded by Piyal Kariyawasam and Gaya Nagahawatta in 2017, to work with like-minded artists and with communities. After extended years of engaging in theatre, in fiction writing, editing, translation, art and video production, our aim was to collaborate more closely, share ideas and be a sounding board for each other, in all creative engagements.
We have come together for workshops, storytelling sessions, performances, and translation and editing activities through the years and continue to do so. The Seevali Story Circle, in Wanathamulla was one of our early voluntary projects.
Recently we officially registered the Katha Kiyanno (Story Tellers’) Collective, with the Department of Cultural Affairs, to enable the continuation of our activities in a more systematic and far reaching manner.
